Total Tastings is an event and product demo company based in St. Louis, Missouri. Specifically, they work with distributors to promote beverage and food products through sales-focused tasting events. They have a team of 100+ ambassadors that typically work part-time hosting events and sampling products.

In 2020, they approached us with the idea of streamlining the scheduling and data collection experience. I led the product design for the project and worked directly with the Total Tastings team and their ambassadors to design a product that met business goals and fit user needs.

To better understand the outgoing solutions and the problems that need to be solved, the project started with an extensive foundational research stage that included surveys, informal interviews, and observing tasting events first-hand.

Obscured information

Ambassadors were using an existing scheduling app that, among other issues, too heavily relied on a "Notes" input field to communicate multiple pieces of information to the ambassador about their upcoming events. This made it difficult to emphasize details that ambassadors needed to be aware of before conducting an event.

Difficult data collection

The fast-paced environment of an event made it difficult for ambassadors to keep track of event data. For example, trying to remember the number of samples given out often resulted in inconsistent data and a lack of confidence in the accuracy of their data. 

Additionally, the lack of connection between the event logging and the scheduling app meant ambassadors were required to manually submit event data already logged in the scheduling app. This meant more work for the ambassadors and made it more likely that the data would be inconsistent and unreliable.

Problem Statement: Ambassadors need to quickly and easily manage their work responsibilities before, during, and after promotional events in order to increase efficiency and focus on customer interaction.
